Smartphone Cameras – Gold Country Photography

Smartphone cameras are getting better and better and the thing about a smartphone camera is,..it’s always with you and available when something spectacular happens in front of you.

My wife, Arlene took these two shots just two days ago as she was leaving work with her Samsung S5.

Although these were edited with Lightroom on a computer and their file size being pretty small, she still got the shot!

Smartphones are also quite good at editing, maybe even better than a computer editor with all of the specialized apps. Here is a list of editing apps from CNET.com

License to Explore~ Winter Finally Arrives in the Gold Country! By Steph Gabler

Just when I was resigned to the fact that we were going to go from Fall to Spring here in the Gold Country, Winter arrived with a BANG!  14″ of beautiful, white snow arrived overnight and into the morning, so of course I grabbed my camera and went out to explore.

Camino, CA is probably better known  as Apple Hill, and is absolutely gorgeous any time of the year. However, on those fairly rare occasions that it is covered in snow… it’s simply magical.

I started my trip down Carson Rd,  at the bottom of “downtown” Camino.  I saw this magical scene just minutes after getting off the freeway…

This Vineyard is getting a nice winter blanket of snow.  As I slowly made my way down the hill (not everyone was practicing safe snow driving) I saw my next photo opportunity… at the “famous” High Hill Ranch. High Hill is the largest and most popular farm in Apple Hill.  With snow covering the apple Orchard, I was captivated by what was before me. “Every Exit up I-80” part II – Gold Run/Alta-Bonnynook – Gold Country Photography – Grass Valley, Ca

Gold Country Photography

In our initial episode Every Exit up I-80, issue one I left Colfax heading east and only made it as far as Dutch Flat but I had a great time there.

In this episode, I start the journey at Exit 143 Gold Run, went up to Exit 146 Alta Bonnynook Rd. and ended at Exit 148b Baxter.

So, let’s get started.

Heading east on Interstate 80 you often miss Exit 143 Gold Run, (especially if you are driving up from the Bay Area) because just past the Gold Run exit is the first “Rest Stop” on your way up the grade but I do not need the rest stop, at least not yet.

(the photo above is coming back west as I forgot to take this pic on the way up)

Stopping at the end of the exit, I see a uniquely old styled building off to the right.  Turns out to be a sports bar and grill  Mountain Springs Hitch n Post

As I am taking this shot, I look back across the road to see the Gold Run historical marker almost hidden behind a cyclone fence next to the freeway. Continue reading ““Every Exit up I-80” part II – Gold Run/Alta-Bonnynook – Gold Country Photography – Grass Valley, Ca”
