about  bodey marcoccia – (pronounced: BOH-dee mar-KOH-chuh)

Since receiving my first DSLR camera in 2008, I’ve consistently enjoyed the persuit of photography. I live near Sonora, California with my wife and two sons.

I love landscape photography. Whether it’s Pacific beaches, Scottish plains, Eastern Sierra mountains, or any other number of breathtaking locations I’ve had the fortune of visiting, I always try to capture the one shot that can make someone else feel like they’re right there with me.

I’ve spent the last few years transitioning and building my skills as a portrait photographer, and I’d be glad to work with you to create printed memories that will last a lifetime.

Hi everyone…Tahoe is sad. I want to go outside and play on my property. Dad says I get to muddy. Getting muddy is fun for Tahoe and Tucker. Can someone make it stop so I can play again. Dad says if anyone wants pictures of their fur babies he is going to have his Spring Fur-Baby Photoshoot Specials. License to Explore~ Winter Finally Arrives in the Gold Country! By Steph Gabler

Steph Gabler Photography

Just when I was resigned to the fact that we were going to go from Fall to Spring here in the Gold Country, Winter arrived with a BANG!  14″ of beautiful, white snow arrived overnight and into the morning, so of course I grabbed my camera and went out to explore.

Camino, CA is probably better known  as Apple Hill, and is absolutely gorgeous any time of the year. However, on those fairly rare occasions that it is covered in snow… it’s simply magical.

I started my trip down Carson Rd,  at the bottom of “downtown” Camino.  I saw this magical scene just minutes after getting off the freeway…

This Vineyard is getting a nice winter blanket of snow.  As I slowly made my way down the hill (not everyone was practicing safe snow driving) I saw my next photo opportunity… at the “famous” High Hill Ranch. High Hill is the largest and most popular farm in Apple Hill.  With snow covering the apple Orchard, I was captivated by what was before me. Rainy Days – Ivy Tree Photography – Mt Shasta, Ca

Rainy Days

January 24, 2018

Rainy days sometimes means being stuck inside with nothing to do. So there comes a need for creativity in doors. For me I find it extremely difficult to photograph things inside, because my main focus is nature and the outdoors. But, I will take the challenge and try to find a tutorial online to find a little inspiration. I actually enjoy these kind of projects, because it forces you to step outside your box. So my creative project this rainy day week was capturing smoke and a few different editing processes done in Photoshop.

  • Nikon D5300 camera
  • Nikon 55-200mm lens
  • Focal length – 60mm with a 20MM macro extension tube
  • Aperture – 8
  • Speed – 1/320
  • ISO – 100
  • Off camera flash used
    Trigger & Tripod also used

“Every Exit” up I-80 by JCameron – Gold Country Photography

Every Exit – Dutch Flat, a ghost story

My Wife and I moved to Grass Valley in 2011.  Up until then the only thing I knew about Grass Valley was that it was two words on the signs on Interstate 80. Since the move, I have had a quest to venture off of every exit on I-80,  east of Colfax. With a little help from my wife,  kicking me out of the house for the day, I started out on my adventure.

This is the beginning of a three, or four, or more part series. I did not take photos at every exit, or from every exits area, as it just was not that interesting. I am surprised so far with what I have found.

Today’s installment I leave Colfax heading east. I only get as far as the Alta exit as I spent most of the day in Dutch Flat, (In my head I am sounding just like good ole Huell Howser).

Tahoe National Forest Photo Contest Winner – Joe Dondelinger – Foresthill, Ca

The Tahoe National Forest has a yearly photo contest and for 2017, it was recently announced that our proud member Joe Dondelinger has won both first and second places!!

Congratulations Joe!!

1st Place

“Celestial Wilderness” by Joseph Dondelinger, (Castle Peak)

Note from the Photographer:  This is one of my most achieved photos to date planned months ahead of time! This photo is actually a blend of two images taken at very precise and critical times at the same position and angle. On July 22, 2015, I set off on the brutal 1200 foot backpack trip up to near the top of Castle Peak carrying over 60 pounds of gear, including all of my camera equipment! I also carried up my iOptron Sky Tracker, which plays a crucial role in capturing the most detailed shot of the Milky Way possible and was the first image I captured, which also had to be taken in between the sunset and moonrise 45-minute window. During the 4-minute tracked exposure, I managed to capture a spectacular meteor to the south! After this shot, I moved the camera just a few inches over to a stationary tripod keeping the same angle and prepared for the moonrise so I could capture the foreground image just a few minutes later! Timing was impeccable with this as I had to shoot my foreground quick and on time just as the moon was rising, so the moonlight and the warm glow from the headlamp in my tent stay in the right balance! Then finally later in post production I blended the two images together. What I love most about this image is how I can truly reflect upon my memories of just how amazing this little camp spot was that night and the success of all of my hard work to achieve this photo!

License to Explore ~ Christmas at Jackson, CA By Steph Gabler

Steph Gabler Photography
January 7, 2018 and I found myself in Jackson, CA.  I have made many trips to Jackson over the past 30 years, it is one of my favorite small towns to visit. Happily, life is returning to this Main St, along with many of the others along Historic Hwy 49 in the Gold Country.

When we stepped out of the car, I was not only thrilled, but stunned to see and hear Christmas! Carols were playing on the loud speakers, and all the shop windows still displayed the Christmas cheer. It didn’t take long for me to remember that Jackson has a very large Serbian population and they celebrate Christmas on January 7th.

It was wonderful being surrounded by Christmas! I love the holiday season and wish I could live in it year round.  Main St was all decorated, along with the National Hotel and most shop windows.

I think my favorite store windows were the Antique Stores, it was like stepping back into simpler times. Continue reading “License to Explore ~ Christmas at Jackson, CA By Steph Gabler”

5 Reasons to Hire a Documentary Photographer – Kelly Howell Photography – Placerville, Ca

By KellyHowellPhoto

Documentary photography is for everyone and for everything. It’s the type of photography that stirs up emotions and looks at life for what it really is. I know that “being in the moment” is hard when you already have an incredibly busy life, that’s why I came up with 5 reasons you should hire a documentary photographer.

Christmas light exploring at the Folsom Zoo.

1. You’re in the pictures!

After interviewing lots of parents about taking photos of their kids during the day or on vacations, the number one reason they hire a documentary photographer is to be in the photos. Parents want photos of them interacting with their children and playing with them. It’s the best part of their day.

2. You get to enjoy the event your hosting.

At my son’s 1st birthday party, I was so worried about getting a great photo of him, making food, getting drinks and making sure everyone was having a good time that I forgot to enjoy the party and be in the moment with him. I have vague memories of his first party, instead of worrying about all those things I should have just concentrated on him having a good time. Hiring a photographer for your event just gives you one less thing to fret about. I wish I would have done it.
